What is a trip to south africa without a safari?

Instead of listing lots of options... We decided on two!

We have gone with one of our favorite "smaller" game reserves that offers a boutique and personal feel, as well as one of the most notable game reserves in all Africa as our top picks for a South African safari!

Botlierskop Reserve & Villas

When we lived in Cape Town (7 years!), we stayed at this large (yet boutique) reserve with family that came to visit. We were were completely blown away by the service, the food, the accommodation, the class, and the animals we were able to see! As well, we walked with lions and rode elephants, making family memories to last a lifetime!

- Best Aspects of Botlierskop -

  • Abundant Wildlife: Botlierskop is a wildlife wonderland, home to the renowned Big Five alongside a colorful cast of other African animals. From majestic lions to graceful giraffes, you are treated to a diverse array of wildlife sightings. They respect the animals and habitat so well here on this 10,378 acre reserve.

  • Luxurious Accommodation: Amidst the rugged beauty of the African bush, Botlierskop offers guests a luxurious retreat. Whether you prefer the cozy tented lodges or spacious suites overlooking the reserve, comfort and hospitality are top priorities. We would wake up to Zebras right outside our back door (Manor House)!

  • Memorable Safari Experiences: Guided game drives through Botlierskop provide unforgettable encounters with Africa's iconic wildlife. Knowledgeable rangers lead expeditions, offering guests the chance to observe animals up close in their natural habitat, created lifetime worthy memories for our family. Along with this, we took advantage of a bush walk with the lions (and rangers), as well as Elephant rides.

  • Commitment to Conservation: Botlierskop is deeply committed to wildlife conservation and sustainable tourism practices. Through participation in breeding programs and habitat restoration initiatives, the reserve plays a vital role in protecting Africa's natural heritage.

  • Spectacular Scenery: Set against the stunning backdrop of the Outeniqua Mountains and the Garden Route coastline, Botlierskop showcases breathtaking landscapes. From open plains to dense forests, the reserve's diverse terrain enhances the safari experience, providing guests with unforgettable views and photo opportunities.

Kruger National Park is easily one of the most iconic locations to see the big 5 (Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Leopard and Buffalo) in Africa. With many safari's, lodges, and tours on its 4.9 million acres, this is a behemoth of a game reserve!

  • Wildlife Wonderland: Kruger National Park is a wildlife enthusiast's dream come true. It's like a Noah's Ark reboot, but with more diverse creatures and fewer rainstorms. From majestic lions to playful monkeys, the park offers a glimpse into the real-life drama of the animal kingdom. As one of Africa's largest game reserves, it has a high density of animals and wildlife.

  • Comfort in the Wilderness: Who says you can't have both adventure and comfort? Kruger's accommodations (there are many) range from cozy bungalows to luxurious safari lodges, ensuring that you can experience the wild without sacrificing modern comforts. Here are some of our favorites that are close to all the action, from the high class to the more rustic, you are sure to have a memorable time here
